Unplug…And Step into a World of Inspiration

When I first saw Deb Ozarko’s new book, Unplug: 26 People Share How They Recharge and Reconnect to Passion, Presence, and Purpose, I was impressed. What a cool idea for a book, I thought. In this world where there is so much to feel worried, even desperate, about, we could all use some inspiration to live our best lives and find our inspiration. But I wasn’t prepared for what I found when I opened that book up and started to read.

This is a book that spoke to me directly and immediately. It was like it had been written for me, and I know I’m not going to be the only person who feels that way. It’s not a book that glosses over the challenges that we face as humans, but it’s one that will help those who read it look inside themselves and find their own power for peace. Birthed from the Unplug! podcast that Ozarko hosts on her website, the book Unplug features the stories of 26 inspiring people – each of whom has faced challenges, each of whom has risen to those challenges and found their way to creating change that is meaningful to them, and impactful in the world. Among them are names many will be familiar with – Gene Baur, founder of Farm Sanctuary, Ocean Robbins, CEO of the Food Revolution Network; photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur; author, speaker and podcast host Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, and more. Their stories are extraordinary, and yet in some way many of them are familiar.

This morning I was watching a speech by U.S.

[vegan] Senator Cory Booker, and something he said stuck with me, and made me think about the message of this book: “Cynicism is a refuge of cowards. It almost says that you should wash your hands of responsibility to take action because there’s nothing you can do to change [things] and that’s just not the case.” Each of the people in this book has faced their “dark night of the soul,” and they have come out the other side stronger and more able to make a contribution that really counts in this world where so many feel dis-empowered.

We can’t control many of the circumstances that can cause despair in this world, but we can control what we do with the knowledge and feelings that we acquire from living life on this planet. We make choices every day about how we participate, and what we contribute, and Unplug, Ozarko, and the stories in this book will inspire you to rise to make the most of your time here, finding your true purpose and moving forward with it.

Unplug: 26 People Share How They Recharge and Reconnect to Passion, Presence, and Purpose is available on Amazon, Kobo, and iBooks.
