Conscious Choices for a Healthier Future: Gabriel Cousens on the Vegan Mainstream Cookbook Club

As many of us are becoming more keenly aware, food is much more than something we put in our mouths to satiate our hunger. Where it comes from, how it was produced, what it is – all of these factors influence not only our physical health, but also our emotional, mental and spiritual health, as well as how we exist on this planet in concert with other animals. Through his work at the Tree of Life Foundation Dr. Gabriel Cousens has been working for decades to educate and inspire people about living consciously, including how to nourish our bodies and spirits in a way that promotes not only opitimal health, but also peaceful existance with minimal harm to the environment that contains us, and the other animals that share this planet.

This week on the Vegan Mainstream Cookbook Club we are featuring Dr. Cousens and his two most recent books, Conscious Eating and Conscious Parenting (coauthored by Leah Lynn), both published by North Atlantic Books. These books provide a plethora of information about how to eat and live in a way that will help to optimize all aspects of your health and well being. Conscious Eating provides guidelines, encouragement and tools for adults to transition to an individualized, live, vegetarian (vegan) diet while the more recent Conscious Parenting provides the same for parents and their children. They both offer a wide away of raw vegan recipes, making live food appealing and accessible. Together these books are a valuable toolkit for anyone wanting to live a life with heightened awareness around the food they eat and how it impacts their, and their family’s, life.

“Conscious Eating is the awareness of how the food we eat affects our body, emotions, mind, and spiritual life. It is understanding how what we eat directly affects the planetary ecology and the degree of peace we have with the human and animal life on this planet, and even who lives or starves to death.”

Dr. Cousens’ wise voice is renowned in the vegan and spiritual communities, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with him in a live Google Hangout this Thursday, January 14 from 5:30-6 pm PST. Come join us!

We are also delighted to be sharing a few of the recipes from the books on the club this week, starting with the first one for Raw Pizza, which we shared this morning:
