Weekend Blog Reads: For the Love of Food

How can one transition to eating cleaner and healthier?  What are some vegan recipes that my non-vegan partner and/or children will still enjoy?  How can I incorporate more greens into my diet without eating salads every day? Where can I go to look at cute pictures of cats, read more about healthy & sustainable living, and learn about five things one should never ever do?  The place to answer all of these questions is For The Love of Food. For The Love of Food is a food blog that will appeal to the vegan, the non-vegan, the aspiring-vegan, and the foodie in all of us.

My name is Sonnet and I am the voice behind For The Love of Food.   I began this blog as a way to reconnect with food, my body, and my community.  I love eating food, talking about food, and thinking about food.  To me, food is about nourishing our bodies, being present in every moment, and connecting with those we love.  So many of life’s wonderful and beautiful moments involve food.

My journey to veganism began when I was a teenager and started suffering from abdominal pain and digestive issues.  I spent years in and out of doctors’ offices, seeing specialists, and trying medications.  Nothing seemed to make it better.  At one point I was even told by a doctor to stop eating fruits and vegetables. To me, this recommendation seemed to be exactly the opposite of what I would want to do.

I began to realize that I needed to know more about food because I believed it would make me better. I started reading more, cooking my own food for the first time, and changing my diet.  I first cut dairy out. Then I stopped eating meat and eggs.  Switching to a vegan diet helped a lot! This experience showed me how important it is to listen to one’s body– and that includes eating the right food for you.

Blogging has not only kept me accountable to getting creative in the kitchen with vegan cuisine, but it has given me an opportunity to share my passion with others and connect with people also aspiring for a healthier life.  My hope is that my journey can help others in their journey towards health and happiness.  Thanks for being part of this journey with me!

She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington and a Master’s Degree from Antioch University Seattle.  Sonnet works for a social justice nonprofit and educates children and low-income families about seasonal vegetables and healthy eating.  She is also a volunteer assistant for the PCC Cooks program.  She currently lives in Seattle, Washington with her partner and her cat.
