Here are your inspirations for this week’s Testimony Tuesday. This week we had 3 great stories from people that have made the transformation, then didn’t look back. Enjoy

From Gabrielle Smith

I was a relatively happy omnivore until I saw the realities of industrialized animal farming, thanks to a video online. It wasn’t really that I had no idea, but I had sheltered myself, purposefully, to provide the disconnect necessary to be able to eat animals, when I knew I loved them more than my own species.

It was a quick decision one day, and I ate the meat I had on hand, and then never ate meat again, and going vegan was the next step. It’s been three years since I went veg, and a year since going vegan, and I cannot imagine turning back. It may seem hard at first, but it’s important to focus on the reasons for going vegan, and the variety of plant foods available. My soul is so happy now that I am living my morals and ethics.

I have been a vegetarian for one year and am currently transitioning to be a vegan. I don’t miss eating meat at all. It surprised me that within a few months of giving up meat, it had a different smell than it used to have when I ate it. It smelled like blood and had a rotting stinch. It is surprising because I used to like chicken and fish! Now, fish smells like urine to me. I actually like lima beans, tofu, and edamines (soy beans) and fake meat made of soybeans. I like the Black Bean hamburgers by Morning Star, Veggie Crumbles by Morning Star, and Quorn Italian “fake” chicken breasts. They taste so good! My taste buds have changed and I have lost inches but not weight. My blood pressure is amazing too!

I know your requirement says “over the last 15 years” but I’m enthusiastic to share as I have been vegetarian, then vegan for over 30 years. Vegetarian first, as I didn’t fully understand the implications behind consuming dairy products but as soon as I found out, I changed immediately to being fully vegan. Originally, I naively thought that if I ate dairy, it was ok because no animal was killed. My thinking was skewed! I am Vegan wholeheartedly because I adore and respect animals and will not partake in any activity or support any industry that brings harm or suffering to those I adore. Now I also realize that my policy is good for the environment too and it’s a bonus that I find it’s better for my health. I am proud to follow a Vegan lifestyle and nothing could ever tempt me to change!

We hope you enjoyed this week’s stories.  Each week we will be asking individuals in the vegan and vegetarian community to share a personal story about their transformation to be an inspiration to others.
