Just in time to please the kids and the kid in all of us for Halloween.
Who doesn’t have fond memories of big, gooey caramel apples? There’s just something about that ultra-sweet chew complimenting the crisp, tart sweetness of a crunchy green apple.
Well, there IS a way to make caramel apples that won’t add hundreds of empty calories, or have you risking pulling out your teeth in the process of eating them. And where else to get such sugar-free goodies but from Chef AJ and the Plant-based Dietitian?
How to make healthy caramel apples
This recipe is easy and unprocessed. In other words, it’s all whole, plant-based foods and all you need is:
- date paste (make easily yourself by soaking dates in water until soft, then whirring with the ‘S’ blade in food processor)
- crisp green apples
- optional caramel or vanilla extract
- choose your topping: cacao nibs, chopped nuts, shredded coconut
- sticks for holding (from a craft store or baking store)
That’s it! Here’s the how-to with Chef AJ and the Dietitian – complete with Halloween costumes and a little bit of spooky music:
